Hardfacing
What is Hardfacing?
Hardfacing is the deposition of hard wear-resistant materials on to a base metal to give components an efficient hard-wearing surface, resistant to abrasion, erosion, corrosion and heat.
This metalworking process may be applied via a number of different welding techniques to restore or extend the life of worn parts and equipment, as part of a maintenance program or used preemptively on new components. This results in significant savings in production costs and crucially, a reduction in down-time.
This is the main reason hardfacing has become so popular across so many industries.
With well over 35 years expertise of supplying wear parts with Nickel and Cobalt-based coatings for use in the most hostile of environments, we really are THE Hard-Facing specialists.
Utilising many different welding processes, including Tig, Mig, Plasma, Spray and HVOF, we are able to offer hardfacing on a multitude of base materials including (but not limited to) carbon steels, stainless steels and high alloy metals.
Most of our hardfacing work is according to NACE, Norsok and ASME requirements.
Our extensive library of welding procedure approvals (over 100 of them) means we are qualified to undertake critical work for names such as BAE, Siemens, Rolls Royce, Vetco Gray, Statoil, EDF, Flowserve and Sulzer.

Precision Machining
With over 30 manufacturing cells on site, we are able to machine an array of raw materials and process them into high specification components as per your requirements, using a combination of (but not limited to) manual and CNC lathes, CNC vertical lathes with milling capabilities, CNC machining centres and EDM machining.
We are also capable of supplying a range of surface-finishing techniques, such as grinding, honing and polishing.
The work we do here ranges from sublimely small and intricate components, to complex manufacturing solutions, to large industrial parts used in heavy engineering. We also undertake a significant amount of reverse engineering work for our customers, with our technical and commercial teams working together to supply drawings for the machined part.
Furthermore, due to our welding expertise and facilities, we can accommodate many fabrication requirements you may have.
We are also able to offer a ‘breakdown’ service for those critical moments when your part or tooling/equipment fails. We have the capability to remove the part, provide a quick turnaround engineering solution and return the part to you, to mitigate the costs of machine down-time.
Heat Treatment
The majority of the work we do here at AMB Co. Ltd is for critical applications, which are required to meet the criterion of our customers’ specification and one such requirement is heat treatment.
We have 7 furnaces of varying size on site which support our precision machining work and deposition approvals/welding procedures.
Testing/Inspection
Also integral to our work here, are our in-house testing and inspection capabilities. We have wide range of NDT facilities including (but not limited to) hardness/Tensile testing, Ultrasonic testing and Magnetic Particle Inspection. Plus, Dye pen testing qualified to SNT2 and PCN2 level, and PMI testing supplied with Certificate of Conformity, as per your requirements.
We have a temperature-controlled inspection laboratory fully fitted with a range of Coordinate Measuring Machines and a fully qualified inspection team.
Project Management
Our core values of absolute integrity, respect and excellence form the basis of everything we do here at AMB Co. Ltd. Our project management capabilities are borne out of these core values.
There’s an element of project management to even the most straight-forward of orders we receive, but it’s the more complex or multi-process requirements where we are able to utilise our expertise and our core values come to the fore, to provide an engineering solution of the highest quality to our customers.
We are able to offer a ‘deposition only’ service or project manage a full turn key solution, from sourcing the raw material to producing and finish-machining the component as per your drawings, complete with processes such as:
All supplied as per your specification, with regular communication throughout the project, you can trust AMB Co. Ltd to deliver high quality solutions to your engineering challenges.
